You define the tag type (such as department, location, legal entity, or **cost centre**) and then create values within it to represent the specific groups or codes your business uses. ### **How tags work** Each tag has one or more values. For example, a tag named "Department" might have values such as "Finance", "Sales", and "Engineering". Once a tag and its values are set up, you assign them to users and categories. When a user raises an expense claim, the relevant tag values are automatically applied, giving Finance a consistent set of data to work with across all claims. ****Video**: What is a tag?** [Embedded content](https://app.trupeer.ai/embed/KJcgkku0j) These videos were recorded in Capture Expense. Some screens and labels may look slightly different in Expenses, but the steps remain the same. ### Access tags As an administrator, go to **Setup** > **Tags**. The number in the **records** column indicates how many values each tag has. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/fc2cda72-4645-4b36-96bf-60439ec11f11/Images/Documentation/image(447).png) ![](https://cdn.document360.io/fc2cda72-4645-4b36-96bf-60439ec11f11/Images/Documentation/image-NX2ZLUHV.png) **See also**: [Assigning tags to user accounts](/docs/assigning-tags-to-user-accounts) and [assigning tags to categories](/docs/assigning-tags-to-categories).
