# Guide: Working patterns

Working patterns define the days, or part days, of the week that count as standard working days for an employee or a post. They are used to set an employee's Full Time Equivalent (FTE), which can pro-rate salary, payments, and allowances, and they support accurate absence reporting for payments such as Occupational Sick Pay and Statutory Sick Pay.
