# How do I create a document format?

Within the **Preferences/Installation Name** window within **Cintra iQ**, as a system administrator, you can specify which type of document format a user can upload into the **Cintra iQ** database and the maximum sizes for those formats.

## To create a document format

1. Navigate to the **Document formats for upload** pane. Go to **Cintra iQ**: System Administrator > Preferences/Installation > iQ Details tab
2. Click the **New** button. The **Create Document Format for Upload** form appears.
3. Enter the desired extension.
4. Select the **Allow Upload via Cintra iQ** option, if necessary.
5. Enter the maximum file size for **Cintra iQ** in **MB**.

> **Note:** When the user uploads their documents, an error message appears if the document size exceeds what is set in this field.
6. Select the **Allow upload via Self-Service** option, if necessary.
7. Enter the maximum file size for **Self-Service** in **MB**.

8. Click the **OK** button. The file format is set and appears in the **Document Formats for upload** pane.
