# MCR: What are unique role identifiers?

<html><head></head><body><h2 data-block-id="mpwnsa23-m0ryw5-662" id="what-are-role-identifiers">What are role identifiers?</h2><p data-block-id="mpwnytr3-o8r5c2-695"><strong>Role Identifiers</strong> are made up of contract identifier, a forward slash and then a role identifier. They make sure that in the <strong>MCR</strong> template, the contributions are checked within each contract separately. eg The <strong>Cintra iQ</strong> system helps create role identifiers for you in the following format: <strong>C1/R1</strong>, <strong>C2/R1</strong>, <strong>C3/R1</strong> etc. The <strong>C</strong> identifies the contracts and the <strong>R </strong>identifies the roles. The unique role identifier only identifies a contract within a particular employee record. Therefore the same identifier, eg <strong>C1/R1</strong>, can be used for many employees. &nbsp; </p><h2 data-block-id="mpwnsa23-33e498-663" id="can-many-employees-have-the-same-role-identifiers">Can many employees have the same role identifiers?</h2><p data-block-id="mpwnytr3-s2ayvq-696"> Yes, the role identifier only needs to be unique to the individual employee. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;</p><blockquote data-block-id="mpwnsa23-99b8fh-664" class="infoBox" data-background="#ddf7ff" data-border="#006a8a" style="background:rgb(221, 247, 255);border-left:4px solid rgb(0, 106, 138);overflow:auto;"><p data-block-id="mpwnsa23-46j0qu-665"><strong>Note: </strong>The Role Identifier is specific to the employee's contract, not against the specific job that the employee holds.</p></blockquote><h2 data-block-id="mpwnsa23-uyk1z9-666" id="does-the-role-identifier-need-to-be-changed-if-a-member-changes-roles-over-time">Does the role identifier need to be changed if a member changes roles over time?</h2><p data-block-id="mpwnytr4-0k586g-697"> When a member is in a single contract and signs a new contract, eg Moves from teaching Biology to teaching Endobiology, then they should be issued with a new role identifier. The role identifier has all the opt out/additional pension contribution etc information attached to it. &nbsp; </p><h2 data-block-id="mpwnsa23-pd8k3u-667" id="what-is-the-format-of-the-contractrole-identifier">What is the format of the contract/role identifier?</h2><p data-block-id="mpwnytr4-9b29df-698"> Within <strong>Cintra iQ</strong>, the <strong>C1/R1</strong>, <strong>C2/R2</strong> etc format is used to identify the member's contract of employment and role. You can define your own format to suit your needs by using the following criteria: </p><ul data-block-id="mpwnsa24-7oa32l-668"><li data-block-id="mpwnsa24-7qlt6y-669"><p data-block-id="mpwnytr4-whjg4p-699">The first value before "<strong>/</strong>":</p><ul data-block-id="mpwnsa24-l1j0ve-670" data-list-format="disc"><li data-block-id="mpwnsa24-x2nxrj-671"><p data-block-id="mpwnsot0-xthvz7-681">must identify the member’s contract of employment at their place of work and the row of data to which it is related.</p></li><li data-block-id="mpwnsa24-we0036-672"><p data-block-id="mpwnytr4-ec65yj-700">should contain at least one character but no more than fifteen characters.</p></li><li data-block-id="mpwnsa24-90vnz0-673"><p data-block-id="mpwnytr4-suxde1-701">can contain characters, numbers and special characters within the first value except ‘/’, ‘\’, ‘~’ and ‘,’.</p></li></ul></li><li data-block-id="mpwnsa24-632n5t-674"><p data-block-id="mpwnytr4-q0fh2a-702">The second value after "/":</p><ul data-block-id="mpwnsa24-ruyntj-675" data-list-format="disc"><li data-block-id="mpwnsa24-dhz1zy-676"><p data-block-id="mpwnsqtl-8j6ctd-683">must identify the member’s individual post role under their contract of employment at their place of work and the row of data to which it relates.</p></li><li data-block-id="mpwnsa24-rjxlwk-677"><p data-block-id="mpwnytr4-60tvam-703">should contain at least one character but no more than twenty characters.</p></li><li data-block-id="mpwnsa24-79gt98-678"><p data-block-id="mpwnytr4-7ohwtl-704">can contain characters, numbers and special characters within the second value except ‘/’, ‘\’, ‘~’ and ‘,’.</p></li></ul></li></ul><blockquote data-block-id="mpwnsa24-5yv884-679" class="warningBox" data-background="#fdf2ce" data-border="#7f6416" style="background:rgb(253, 242, 206);border-left:4px solid rgb(127, 100, 22);overflow:auto;"><p data-block-id="mpwnsa24-zd5tby-680"><strong>Important: </strong>If an employee changes contracts, then they should be given a different role identifier.
