Viewing period changes

The Period Changes tab in a payroll shows every change made to a payroll for the selected period, including inserts, updates, and deletions, with before and after values for each field.

Accessing period changes

You can only view period changes for the current period of each payroll.

  1. Open Payrolls and select the payroll you want to review.

  2. Select the Period Changes tab.

Switching views

Changes can be viewed in two ways using the View by dropdown:

  • View by: Category (default). Changes are grouped by change type, such as Personal details, Employment, or Salary and allowances.

  • View by: Employee. Changes are grouped by employee, sorted A–Z by surname. Each employee card shows tags for the change types that apply to them.

Filtering changes

Use the following controls to narrow the list of changes:

  • Search: search for changes applied to a specific employees.

  • Select status: filter by Starter, Update, or Leaver (Category view only).

  • Select changes type: filter by one of the following categories:

    • Personal details, Salary and allowances, Rates, Loans, Employment, Bank details, One-off payments and deductions, or Working pattern. Tax, AOE / Student loan, Voluntary deductions, Position working pattern, Positions, Salary and allowances (position), or Rates (position)

  • Collapsed / Expanded: select to collapse or expand all sections at once.

Current and upcoming changes

Use the Current and Upcoming tabs to switch between changes that apply to this period and changes that are dated for a future period. Upcoming changes show an Effective date alongside the change details.

Viewing change details

Select a change type or employee section to expand it. Each change shows:

  • A status badge: New starter, Update, New, or similar, depending on the type of change.

  • A before and after value for each affected field, shown as old value → new value.

  • For linked records, such as pension scheme membership and its contributions, or loan details and their repayment schedules, the parent and child changes are shown together.
