July 2026: Work patterns

Prev Next

Work patterns are major addition to Cintra People, giving HR administrators a way to define exactly how a team works, separately from leave and absence entitlement.

What's new?

Previously, teams that don't work a standard Monday-to-Friday, 9-to-5 week had no real way to reflect that in the system. Rotating shifts, overnight shifts that cross midnight, and multi-week rotas all had to be managed outside the platform, which meant holiday allowances, the team calendar, and leave requests could end up calculated against the wrong pattern.

With Work Patterns, admins can now:

  • Create a pattern of any length, including rotating shifts (for example, 3 days on, 3 days off) and overnight shifts crossing midnight.

  • Assign a pattern to an employee from a specific start date, via Employee Admin.

  • See the pattern reflected automatically in Year at a Glance, so employees can see which days are working days when requesting leave.

Key benefits

  • Set up once, apply everywhere. A Work Pattern feeds the team calendar, leave requests, and allowance calculations automatically, so there's no need to manage rotas separately.

  • Built for shift-based teams. Rotating and overnight shifts are supported natively, rather than needing workarounds.

  • Fewer allowance errors. Leave entitlement is calculated against the employee's actual working pattern, not a default 9-to-5 assumption.

What next?

  • Work patterns are already available for you to create and assign to employees. See Guide: Work patterns.

  • Work profiles (which were previously used to manage working rotas) have been renamed as leave profiles to reflect the fact that the working rota functionality has been removed and replicated in work profiles. For more information, see Guide: Leave profiles.
