Manually input a correction via Payroll Period Input

Prev Next

Sometimes a payment is missed and needs to be added retrospectively,  such as a bonus that should have been paid last month.

Cintra always recommends paying money in the period it was earned, not the current period, to avoid over/under-taxing employees on week 1/month 1 tax codes or affecting pension thresholds like the UEL.

At a glance…

  1. Go back to the original pay period.

  2. Create Input Correction Create Cancel → toggle to Current Period Input (now active).

  3. Add your data → Calculate.

The system handles tax/NI/pension as if it happened at the right time.

In more detail…

  1. Go to Payroll Period Input and navigate back to the pay period the payment relates to.

  2. Click Create Input Correction.

  3. The screen that opens shows correction history only. Click Create, confirm the effective date, then OK.

  4. Click Cancel to exit the screen.

  5. Toggle back to Current Period Input. It will now be active (previously greyed out).

  6. Right-click and add your data as normal (e.g. annual bonus, amount).

  7. Calculate the payslip. You'll see:

    • The amount added under Additions, marked in a different colour with "correction" underneath.

    • A correction period shown on the tax section, confirming it's been taxed as if earned in the original period.

    • Equivalent pension corrections if the employee was in a pension scheme at that time.

Remember! This process ensures historic payments are taxed and pensioned correctly, rather than distorting the current period's figures.

FAQs

Why not just add the bonus to the current month?

It risks over- or under-taxing the employee and can misrepresent pension contributions for that period.

What if I accidentally do something on the first screen after “Create Input Correction”?

Nothing to worry about, that screen only displays history and doesn't require input. Just press Create.

How do I know if a correction period has already been created?

If Current Period Input is greyed out, no correction exists yet for that period.
