September 16th 2026: Statutory payments

Prev Next

For SaaS customers (who process their own payroll), an employee's tax code, National Insurance category, student loan repayments, and court-ordered deductions can now be managed directly in Cintra People Payroll. All this information is also visible to Source customers (who have their payroll managed by a bureau).

What's new?

Tax

  • A full, dated history of an employee's tax codes, showing what's active, upcoming, or finished.

  • Add a tax code from an HMRC P9(T) notice, a P6/P6B notice, or by entering it manually.

  • Record tax rebate suppressions, date ranges in which no tax rebate should be paid, with a reason.

National insurance

  • A full, dated history of an employee's NI category letters.

  • Director status, held per tax year, including whether director NI is spread across the year ("on account").

  • Apprentice periods, which control when apprentice NI categories are available.

Student loans

  • A full, dated history of an employee's student loan repayment orders, across all plan types.

  • A per-period override, to force a specific repayment amount for the current open pay period.

Court orders

  • Every court order an employee holds, with its status, details, and deduction amounts.

  • Inline payment history per order, so you can see exactly what's been deducted each pay period.

  • A three-step wizard for adding a new court order, including the option to add a new issuing authority without leaving the process.

  • The deduction form adapts to the order type. Some types take an amount and protected earnings, some take a daily rate, some calculate the deduction automatically with no amount entered at all.

Across all four tabs, users with view-only access can see the full history but won't see any buttons to make changes. Screens lock automatically while a payroll is being processed, or once an employment has ended.

Court orders on Source (outsourced) payrolls are view-only. This reflects that court order administration on Source payrolls is handled by Cintra's payroll service team as part of the service, not a change to what you can see.

Key benefits

  • One place for the full picture. Tax code, NI category, student loan, and court order history all sit on the employee record, so payroll teams no longer need to switch to other systems for everyday tasks.

  • Clarity at a glance. Every record shows whether it's active, upcoming, or finished, so it's immediately clear what's actually driving an employee's pay.

  • Answer employee questions faster. Payment history for both student loans and court orders is available inline, so you can explain a deduction without running a separate report or leaving the screen.

  • Fewer silent failures. Cintra People Payroll will show you why something has failed, such as why an NI category isn't accepted, or why a deduction amount overlaps another.

What next?

Statutory payments are now live! They are grouped together under a new Statutory deductions area on the employee record, with four tabs: Tax, National insurance, Student loans, and Court orders. For more information, see the Edit employee payroll data section.
